Friday 1st July

The Maydays present: Tonight’s Top Story & guest improv Superstars

We’ll be performing our 5 star show ‘Tonight’s Top Story’ and we’re being joined by the supremely talented Do Not Adjust Your Stage. Taking the past, present and future of an audience member as their inspiration, London’s Do Not Adjust Your Stage improvise a whirlwind of hilarious scenes, stories, sketches and characters. Fresh from sell-out shows in the UK, Europe and US and ongoing residency at the Natural History Museum, this is the FIRST chance to catch DNAYS in Brighton.

Our critically acclaimed show is inspired by newspaper articles cut out by the audience just minutes before curtain time. This is improv without tricks, gimmicks or games, just a live comedic exploration, through scenes and songs, of the secret heart of your city. It is the world only hinted at by your local paper, but finally revealed by the comedic x-ray vision of The Maydays. “…speed of thought and action, the ability to take on character and accent and the knack of making it all funny is a special gift, one The Maydays have in bucketfuls.” ***** The Argus

The Maydays present: Happily Never After
The Maydays new show and Edinburgh preview EXCLUSIVE! A dark and twisted musical tale inspired by the warped imaginations of film director Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice) and the Brothers Grimm. Award-winning improvisers The Maydays take your suggestion and allow a unique tale to unfold, exploring the world of strange possibilities that flows from it. With black comedy, imaginative physicality and a bespoke improvised soundtrack, this will be a truly creepy, atmospheric and fantastical experience. But will there be a happy ending?

The Maydays will be joined by local longform improv troupe, Blanket Fort to kick the night off with their spirit of play and silliness. If you are someone who tends to like joy and exuberance and things like that, you’ll be way into them!
“Highly recommended show” – ★★★★ Fringe Review.

The Maydays present: Confessions! & Guest Improv Superstars

As well as performing our 5 star show ‘Confessions’, we’ll also be joined by guest Improv superstars Tea and Toast to get your laughing gear in order! ‘Tea and Toast’ are a five person Brighton-based improvised theatre group formed in early 2016. The improv they love is grounded in truth and relationships with a dash of the surreal. ‘The Museum of Relationships’ their original format, is a show inspired by the detritus and objects we collect from romantic relationships both current and past. Tea and Toast are Arthur Cotterell, Christine Brooks, Jessie Fuller, Jo O’Gorman and Ric Stewart

Confessions takes audience stories and secrets written down before the show starts and turns them into songs, sketches and beguiling stories. Expect, secrets, lies and guilt. “…one of the best improvised shows out there, you get the feeling that any of these actors could easily hold their own with the likes of Merton, Frost and Jupitus…a must see” ***** Chortle

Reviews of some of our shows

  • One of the best improvised shows out there, and you get the feeling that any of these actors could easily hold their own with the likes of Merton, Frost and Jupitus… a must see.

    — Chortle —
  • Sometimes inspired, always great, occasionally laceratingly funny, and at times deeply affecting.

    — Fringe Guru —
  • The Maydays are England’s vanguard of long-form improvisation.

    — Jason Chin, iO Chicago —
  • The Maydays are an improv ensemble firmly committed to artistic growth and challenge unwilling to settle for simply being awesome. It makes them exciting to watch and a pleasure to work with.

    — Rich and Rebecca Sohn of The Annoyance, Chicago —
  • They’re funny, confident, imaginative, charming and not afraid of making themselves look ridiculous. They will turn your secrets and stories into something to make you laugh your socks off. Go see them if you can.

    — Fringe Review —
  • First class improv-comedy.

    — The Latest —
  • The energy and enthusiasm from the five performers had the audience laughing and cheering at their rapid wit, sharp satire and clever characterisation.

    — A Younger Theatre —
  • There is no doubt The Maydays are a reputable and extremely talented group, the task they undertake to provide on the spot entertainment is no small feat and is most definitely achieved through astonishing ease and enthusiasm.
